Details of the contest can be found  on their website, TwinCitiesLive.com.

“Twin Cities Live” is produced at the KSTP-TV studios of Hubbard Broadcasting located between St. Paul and Minneapolis.  The show format is similar to an earlier KSTP production called “Good Company” co-hosted by Steve Edelman and Sharon Anderson.  ”Good Company” was produced from 1982 Jim Barber in the 1980'sto 1994 and provided an opportunity for many young college students to begin a career in broadcasting.

One of these students was our very own Jim Barber, who majored in Broadcast Production at the University of Minnesota during the early 80′s.  Jim’s first job in the industry was as an intern for the show, working directly with hosts Edelman and Anderson as well as Associate Producer Ellen Rakieten who went on to work as an Executive Producer for Oprah Winfrey and several network series including “The Marriage Ref, ” “Losing It With Jillian,” and the recent “Celebrity Dish”.

Southwest Effect Comes To Branson Missouri

Southwest Effect Comes To Branson MissouriSaturday, March 9th is an important day for tourism in the Ozarks.

Southwest Airlines will officially begin flight service to and from the Branson Airport (BKG), allowing several more key cities around the country to have access to low-cost airfare to the Live Music Show Capital of the World.

“The Southwest Effect” is a phrase invented in 1993 by the U.S. Department of Transportation to describe a notable increase in air travel demand to and from a community as a direct result of Southwest Airlines presence in that market.

The community of Branson expects similar effects after the first jets touch down tomorrow morning at the Branson Airport.

Comedian and ventriloquist Jim Barber from the Hamner Barber Theater will be among the many entertainers and important dignitaries that will be on hand to participate in “The Ultimate Tailgate Party” to welcome the first Southwest flights beginning at 10am.  Barber will also be representing the Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce where he serves as the 2013 Chairman of the Board.

Other entertainers scheduled to perform Saturday morning include The World Famous Platters, the Lennon Cathcart Trio, Acrobats of China, Paul Harris and the Cleverly’s, Legends in Concert and many more. The public is invited to attend the festivities and are urged to bring a lawn chair and wear their Southwest colors (Blue & Red). The gates open at 10am.

By adding direct and connecting flights, Southwest Airlines will offer service between Branson and 67 Southwest cities! Compared to last year’s AirTran Airways service for the same time period, Southwest Airlines this year will nearly be tripling the number of weekly seats, to and from the “Live Music Show Capital of the World.”

Last August, Branson hosted a pep-rally at the Branson Landing in preparation for tomorrow’s event.  Here are some highlights from that memorable day just 6 months ago. Tomorrow’s Tailgate Party promises to be just as exciting!

Branson Show Video Flashback – Junk Food Baby

Branson Show Video Flashback – Junk Food BabyVideo Flashback to 1994…

Ventriloquist Jim Barber - 1994One of the most popular Branson shows in the mid 1990′s was the Glen Campbell Goodtime Show at the beautiful Glen Campbell Goodtime Theatre.

The production ran from 1994 – 1996 and introduced several talented new performers to the Branson entertainment scene, including ventriloquist Jim Barber who now co-stars with Dave & Denise Hamner at the Hamner Barber Theater on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway.

On a recent article entitled, Secrets of The Hamners Magical Parrots Revealed?, we shared a Branson Show Video Flashback from 1998 in which The Hamners appeared on the Nationally syndicated TV series, Young America Outdoors, while they were headlining the Branson City Lights show at the Remington Theatre in Branson.

In this video clip, we go back 18 years to 1994 to see Jim Barber perform an original music routine he performed with his comical ventriloquist character named “Baby”.

The music of the song “Junk Food Baby” was composed and performed by Glen Campbell’s longtime musical conductor T.J. Kuenster.  The lyrics were written by both Jim Barber and T.J. for this performance at the Glen Campbell Goodtime Theatre.  T.J. also composed several other musical scores that are currently being performed by Jim Barber in the 2012 edition of the Hamner Barber Variety Show including “Chico Pete,” “I Like Girls,” “Vote For Me,” and the theme song to the Hamner Barber Holiday Production, “The Wings of Christmas“ that is a highlight each year during Branson’s Ozark Mountain Christmas Celebration.

If you would like to learn more about the composer of the song “Junk Food Baby,” please watch Jim Barber and Dave Hamner interview T. J. Kuenster on the Branson Webcast Show.  Also, visit his official website TJKuenster.com.

Jim Barber Minted On Ventriloquist Hall Of Fame Coin

A newly minted series of golden bronze collector coins has been released to the public featuring Branson, Missouri based entertainer Jim Barber, along with other professional ventriloquists who have made significant contributions to the art of ventriloquism.

“I am truly humbled to have been selected as one of a handful of ventriloquists to appear on this limited-edition set of collector coins. Edgar Bergen, Jimmy Nelson and Señor Wences were my idols as a young boy learning to throw my voice.

To share this honor with them and other contemporary stars of the business whom I also admire and respect such as Jay Johnson, Mark Wade and Terry Fator, just leaves me speechless!

These beautiful coins are a treasured addition to my personal collection of showbiz memorabilia, and I know that anyone who purchases a set will be amazed at the professional quality, weight, and craftsmanship that went into their creation.

Thank you so much for imprinting the heads of Jim Barber and Seville, and an even bigger thank you for not imprinting our tails!” - Jim Barber

The Ventriloquist Hall of Fame Coin Collection features award winning ventriloquists, past and present, who have been recognized as International leaders in their industry.  The coins are produced by Clinton and Adelia Detweiler of the world-famous Maher Ventriloquist Studios who are responsible for teaching the art of “throwing your voice” to thousands of creative students around the planet.

Edgar Bergan – Without a doubt, Edgar Bergan is the most famous and successful ventriloquist of all time. Along with his signature characters Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd, Edgar became an International star of stage, screen, radio and television. His radio appearances on The Chase and Sandborn Hour and The Charlie McCarthy Show made him a house-hold name and opened the door for major appearances on TV and motion pictures. He died after a farewell performance in Las Vegas in 1978 at the age of 75. In 1991, the US Postal Service honored him with a 29-cent commemorative stamp. (Edgar Bergen – Wikipedia)

Terry Fator – Terry Fator began learning ventriloquism as a young boy and eventually combined his comedy with music as lead singer in a variety of traveling bands. Terry began to find success through his combination of vocal singing and ventriloquism as opening act for Reba McEntire, Neal McCoy, Garth Brooks, and Styx. In 2007, a gamble to compete on the first season of NBC’s America’s Got Talent paid off huge, when Terry won the entire competition. The win resulted in Terry receiving one of the biggest entertainment deals in Las Vegas history, a ten-year, 100 millon dollar contract to perform nightly at The Mirage. (Terry Fator – Wikipedia)

Jay Johnson – Jay first achieved national fame as a ventriloquist when he was cast in the role of Chuck Campbell in the TV series SOAP. (Jay Johnson – Wikipedia)

Fred Maher – If a single sourse had to be credited for launching the professional careers of ventriloquists around the globe, it would be the Fred Maher School of Ventriloquism in Detroit, Michigan. The business was later purchased by Clinton and Adelia Detweiler of Littleton, Colorado who renamed it Maher Ventriloquist Studios.  Founded by Fred Maher, the Maher Course teaches various types of character voices, the secret of “throwing your voice”, how to talk without moving your lips, and more. Subscribers to the course also receive instructions on script writing, obtaining publicity, and booking shows. (Maher Ventriloquist Course)

Jimmy Nelson – Born in Chicago in 1928, Jimmy Nelson began performing at the young age of ten as a way of overcoming his fears of speaking in public.  As his confidence grew, so did his talent and in 1945 famed woodcarver Frank Marshall (who also carved Charlie McCarthy) agreed to create Danny’ODay, Humphrey Higsbye and Farfel The Dog. Jimmy appeared regularly on the Ed Sullivan Show and The Texaco Star Theatre hosted by Milton Berle. In 1955, the Nestlé company hired Jimmy to do commercials selling their chocolate candy and Nestlé’s Quik chocolate milk flavoring. (Jimmy Nelson – Wikipedia)

Mark Wade – America’s Foremost Kidshow Ventriloquist is the title most often used to describe Mark Wade. Trained as an elementary school teacher, Mark blends educational teaching techniques with skilled ventriloquism to perform school programs across the country. Mark dedicates himself to teaching good character traits, with an anti-bully segment in each show.  As a motivational speaker, Mark incorporates his creative talents to make the messages stick.  Mark continues to create new shows that teach important concepts such as responsibility, honesty, self-reliance, respect, and other good character words. (KidShowVent.com)

Señor Wences – Born in Spain in 1896, Señor Wences was one of the highest paid vaudeville acts in the entire world. He came to America in 1936 and was an instant hit on such television shows as The Milton Berle Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, and TV specials with Perry Como and Jack Benny. His famous vent characters included ‘Johnny’, ingeniously formed by one of Wences hands and ‘Pedro’, a torso-less head in a box. In the middle of a routine Wences would lift the lid of the box and say “Are you alright?” to which Pedro would reply “S’alright”. Wences died at his home in New York City in 1999 at the age of 103.

WWII Pearl Harbor Veteran Honored in Branson

WWII Pearl Harbor Veteran Honored in BransonVeteran Recognized With Special Commendation

Photo by Joy Morris: Jim Barber, Henry Schnarre, Dave Hamner

The Hamner Barber Show in Branson, Missouri is well known for providing a fun and unique variety show that families of all ages can enjoy together, but show hosts Dave Hamner and Jim Barber are also dedicated to honoring active and retired military who risked everything so we can enjoy our freedoms as Americans.

On a recent vacation trip to Branson, a World War II Veteran from Karnak, Illinois, Henry Schnarre, was surprised to be recognized and introduced by the performers from stage during the performance.

After the show, Mr. Schnarre and his entire group of travel companions were surprised once again as Hamner and Barber presented him with a special commendation and medal in thanks of his service.

We were just in Branson last weekend on a bus tour.  During your show, Dave introduced Henry Schnarre who was with our bus group.  Henry was the WWII Veteran who was at Pearl Harbor.  You later presented him with the NCOA medal on the bus after the show.  That was such an awesome thing you did for Henry and it surely made his day.  He was very touched as was our group for what you two did for him.  Thank you greatly for that moment.

We have been coming to Branson on bus trips we have organized for several years.  During this time we have seen many shows.  Your tribute to the Vets is, in my opinion, the best Veteran tribute in Branson.  Thank you for that as well.
- Dawn Hazel

The beautiful NCOA World War II Veterans Medallion bestows the respect and honor of the Non Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA) for military service in World War II between the years 1941-1946.

The awards are presented with dignity and respect to Members of America’s Armed Forces who answered the Nation’s Clarion Call to Duty to military service for heroic virtues displayed under extraordinary circumstances.

Since November 2011, Hamner and Barber have been awarding the Patriot Medallions to WWII Veterans who attend their popular Branson variety show. Families attending the show with a WWII Veteran are encouraged to notify the box office staff so that arrangements can be made for presentation following the performance. The commendation reads as follows:

“Presented with dignity and respect to a Member of America’s Armed Forces who answered the Nation’s Clarion Call to Duty to military service in World War II. Leaving the safety and security of home, family and friends you stood in harms way prepared to risk life and limb to secure world order, preserve and extend those basic freedoms of life to unknown people of the world. Your service as a Veteran of the Greatest Generation must never be forgotten. The heroic virtues you displayed under extraordinary circumstances – VALOR * SACRIFICE * FIDELITY – must be known and burn in the hearts of every succeeding generation. Your courage and that of your countless comrades-in-arms has taught us the heroic price of freedom.” The commendation is inscribed with “The Greatest Generation Valor Sacrifice Fidelity”.

From One Veteran To Another…

Ray Victor Snapp Sponsored The Medallions

The special medallions are being distributed by the Hamner Barber Theater thanks to the generosity of retired Navy Veteran Ray Victor Snapp from Ohio who sponsored the cost of the awards.

Mr. Snapp served as a Yeoman 2nd Class aboard the USS Pensacola during WWII. He was wounded at the young age of 18 during the Battle for Iwo Jima. He received the Purple Heart for this injury.  In 1969 he lost nearly all of his possessions to fire but since then has amassed a large collection of WWII memorabilia related to his time served. He often volunteers as a speaker for young school children to educate and encourage them to persue their education. In his talks he explains to the youth why “Freedom Isn’t Free.”

Ray Victor Snapp is one of 12 American Heroes featured in the Hamner Barber magical, multimedia tribute to Veterans “Thank You’s Not Enough” which is performed nightly in the Hamner Barber Variety Show and available for preview and purchase at VeteransDVD.com.
